Apparently, the postage for a postcard stamp increased along with the postage for a letter stamp at the beginning of the year.

Last week, I was given the task to mail postcard reminders to our volunteers about an upcoming training. “Simple enough,” I thought as I found postcard stamps in the supply cabinet. I spent a fair amount of time placing the 23 cent stamps in the right hand corner of the postcards and placed them in the mail on my way home from work.

Fast forward to yesterday when many of our volunteers called to inform me that the postage for a postcard has increased from 23 cents to 24 cents. The post office held their mail hostage until they paid the 1 cent balance on the postcard. Oops.

Moral of the story, make sure you know the proper amount of postage before placing mass amounts of reminders in the mail.
